MONILINK’s mobile banking and payment services have finally completed their inexplicably long voyage to Blackberry phones. With Blackberry being the business class’ most beloved smartphone around the globe, MONILINK should have appeared on it a long time ago. Alastair Lukies, Monetise plc’s CEO, believes that the service will further strengthen the Blackberry brand in the UK. The company isn’t going to stop here but has global ambitions.
The service was launched in 2003 and is offered by all seven mobile phone networks in the U.K. The mobile banking service allows users to track their bank account’s balance and view a mini-statement detailing up to the last six transactions. At the time of writing, the service covers only HSBC, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, first direct, Alliance & Leicester and Ulster Bank.
Don’t mistake MOBILINK for a consummate mobile commerce solution yet, as users can only fund mobile top-ups right now. However, in the future users will be able to pay for their purchases, pay various bills and much more.
In the past few years many people have set their hopeful eyes on mobile commerce as the next big revolution. With a wide array of mobile banking and payment solutions already available around the world, the revolution seems to be around the corner.
The air of excitement around mobile commerce stems from the fact that using a mobile payment service one can make payments without risking sensitive information like bank account and credit card details. Analysts also extol m-commerce as it is less susceptible to phishing attacks as compare to online banking and payment services.
On the flip side, mobile payment platforms are not completely immune to hacking – nothing is. Anyways, Blackberry users certainly have another reason to be happy.
