Motorola has finally come up with something new in the mobile phone arena, joining with Kodak to create the Motorola Zine series. The ZN5 features a 5-megapixel camera, which is not groundbreaking in and of itself. However, integrated wi-fe lets users upload photos directly to Kodak Gallery (formerly Ofoto) without first transferring them to a computer. EasyShare software and MotoTools software will ease transfer of photos to a computer for printing or editing. And removable memory cards and Bluetooth file transfers also provide transfer ability.

The ZN5 also comes with editing software and features you’d expect on a stand-alone camera, including a Xenon flash, white balance and brightness settings, color tones, noise reduction, multi-shot and panorama mods, auto-focus and 4x digital zoom. A sliding lens cover automatically switches the phone to camera mode when opened, and the shutter and zoom controls are found on the top of the phone, where you’d expect camera controls.

As a phone, the ZN5 offers quad-band GSM and EDGE support, Motorola’s CrystalTalk technology, FM radio, messaging, music player, and a personal organizer application. It features 350 MB of on-board storage, and can accommodate microSD cards up to 4 GB.

Overall, the ZN5 is a good phone with a great camera, and promises features to make photographers sit up and take notice.
