Nokia’s Tryst With N96!

by Karthik on July 14, 2008

Nokia N96One of the most anticipated phones due to hit the markets anytime soon is the Nokia’s version of ‘Back from the future’ techno-converger also known as the N96. This is one phone launch that is being eagerly anticipated given the anti-climax that we have all had with the latest Apple iPhone. The N96 is a gadget more than it is a phone, bringing convergence to the all aspects of technology so as to provide people like you and me with the very best in communication.

Some of the intro newsletters as well as videos on the N96 are already doing the rounds and from what they have listed, these are some of the key features of the N96

The N96 is a smart phone and currently the one that is ‘most packed’ to the rafters with all sorts of innovative applications. It has dual sliding functionality like its earlier predecessor, the N95. Most of the mobile phones to hit the market these days are modified to incorporate a gaming feature or two and the N96 is no exception to this by having added extra gaming keys. By providing so much, within the ambit of a neat small package, the N96 has set a mark for itself, which it may find harder to surpass in any later models.

The N96 comes with a 5 mega pixel camera with auto-focus and unlike some other phones; we can use it for recording video. it has a Carl-Zeiss lens, providing any images taken with it a greater degree of clarity. So we need not worry about blurry pictures with this one. It has a dual LED flash, with the storage space of 16 GB, which is quite a lot. In addition to this internal memory, the N96 also has a microSD memory card slot for an additional 16 GB of memory, so we should not run out of recording space easily.

The N96 is based on the Symbian S60 operation system and has a DVB-H digital TV receiver, so we should be able to receive TV/ video feeds in it provided our mobile service provider provides for such mobile content. Such high end mobile content is already being made available to many subscribers so it is only a matter of time before such feeds become a regular feature than an exception. The handset has a beautiful 2.8″ QVGA display, providing a higher degree of definition to its images.

The N96 comes with a variety of connection options and in addition, it also comes with a built in GPS receiver. This works with the pre-loaded Nokia maps 2.0, so with this handset, we should be able to find our way to any location quite easily. Nokia’s N96 also makes it easier for us to tag photos and upload it to photo share sites like Flickr. The price tag at $800 may seem a bit steep, but since the launch has not yet taken place, we can hope that this particular feature of the N96 will be bound to change in our favor. This phone is certainly a look into the future, no doubt about that.

I spewed out $850 on the N95 8GB when it came out. Not dissapointed at all since I got it. So spending that much isn’t unreasonable to me. See what you get anyways.

16GB internal memory, plus another 8GB SD card..come on. 24GB phone that can (if your in Europe) watch live TV and is a absolute beast of a smartphone, well worth it.
