Given the high cost involved with mobile phones, particularly with international usage where the costs are not limited to just the phone calls that you would make but extends to a variety of services and utilitarian functions provided by that mobile service provider. Therefore it is prudent to know the method of unlocking your iPhone, so on researching this topic on the net, I came across this particular method of unlocking the iPhone and going by the feedback it has received so far, it seems to work like a charm.
1. The first thing that you would need to do is to disable the iTunes helper application as this may cause disruption. After having disabled the iTunes, you can then search for the iTunes helper in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder and click on the ‘quit’ button. Once you do this, you have effectively started the process towards unlocking your iPhone.
2. Apple does not allow you to use third party applications, but the iPhone has a program called AppTapp that allows you to utilize third party applications, generally meant for chat programs, games and similar functionality.
3. After downloading the AppTapp, go about installing it. During the process of installing this program, it will probably ask you what version of firmware you are currently using. You can get the details regarding the firmware that your phone is using from the net or if you have just updated your iPhone, then chances are that it is firmware 1.0.2, so choose that.
4. After installing the AppTapp, you should get a message that you have installed the AppTapp successfully and you should have a new application on your iPhone screen. By launching this installer, you should be able to get access to a whole range of applications that you can install. The next steps are crucial, so take the time to do
some research so that you can comprehend what you are supposed to do next.
5. Download and install the following applications, unlock.app, lockdownd and Cyberduck. After you have successfully installed the above three, go to iPhone’s settings and set the auto-lock to never.
6. You will need to locate and record your iPhone’s ip address, for this use the wi-fi facility enabled in your phone and seek out your iPhone’s ip address as you will need it later on.
7. On opening up Cyberduck, you can then choose open connection and type in the ip address of your iPhone. While doing this, make sure that you are using port 22, with the user name ‘root’ and password ‘dottie’.
8. Once you are connected, please go to the main directory by choosing /item. Navigate to /usr/libexec and drag and drop the file named lockdownd into this location. You will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing file – click on ‘continue to do so’.
9. From Cyberduck, drag the ‘unlock’ folder and drop it into your applications folder in your main screen. Turn off your iPhone, remove the SIM card and switch the phone back on, so as to choose the app called unlock.
10. If you have downloaded the respective files and folders correctly, you should be able to click on ’start’ and the files should all get installed within a matter of half an hour. It does take that long for these files to get installed, but once they are done, you can then insert any GSM operator’s SIM card and you will be able to use your iPhone with ease.
Before making this attempt, please do some research online so that you can prep yourself. Any small mistake can lead to disaster so make sure that you know what you are attempting here. Also, Apple may modify its programs in the near future so keep in mind that this is at best a temp solution and not a permanent one.
