Blackberry’s First Clamshell – Pearl Flip 8220

Research In Motion have announced the Blackberry Pearl Flip 8220 exclusively for T Mobile. This is the first Blackberry model that comes in a clamshell design and this quad-band EDGE based smartphone weighs just 3.6 ounces and measures roughly 3.9″ x 1.9″ x 0.7″. One nice feature is the external light sensing 240 x 320 resolution LCD display which can be used to preview incoming calls, text messages and emails without actually opening the handset itself.

Also features MP3 playback support, SureType QWERTY keyboard, microSDHC memory card slot, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and Speaker Independent Speaker Recognition. The Pearl Flip 8220 supports upto 16GB using a micro SD/SDHC memory card and is compatible with the Blackberry Media Sync which allows easy synchronisation to iTunes for music.

Set to be released in the US exclusively with T Mobile in October. No pricing details have been announced.
