mobile-sperm Mobile Phone Use Linked To Poor Sperm QualityMobile phone use has been linked to potential health problems such as headaches and cancer for quite some time now, but new research suggests that people should start worrying about another possible side effect – a reduction of sperm quality.

Researchers at Cleveland Clinic, USA conducted an experiment which involved taking semen from 32 men and placing one half of the samples next to a mobile phone which was left on talk mode for an hour (this was said to represent the equivalent of keeping your phone in your pocket whilst talking on a Bluetooth headset).

From the test results, researchers discovered that the semen samples placed next to the phones  displayed:

“An increase in oxidative stress such as an significant increase in free radicals and oxidants and a decrease in antioxidants.”

In plain English, this translates to a reduction in sperm quality including motility and viability.

Lead researcher Ashok Agarwal continued:

“On average, there was an 85 percent increase in the amount of free radicals for all the subjects in the study. Free radicals have been linked to a variety of diseases in humans including cancer.”

We have already discovered from other studies into mobile phones, that regular phone use can potentially lead to brain damage and cancer, so this new research is certainly not surprising but definitely worth noting. I wonder if a similar study will be conducted with females? If so, it wouldnt surprise me if the results turned out to be just as scary.
