Sony Ericsson has been attempting to revive their classic T Series handsets with the introduction of the T700, officially know as Sony Ericsson Remi. Promoted as the successor of the classic T610, the T700 is a lightweight and very compact handset which I predict many people will fall for. The phone is just 78mm thick and at only 78 grams is astonishingly light for a handset of this specification.
And what are the key specifications?
* A 3.2 megapixel camera with a flash and 3x digital zoom.
* IQuad-band 3G handset with HSDPA support.
* 2 Inch (240 x 320) pixel display
* 512 Mb memory card included. Expandable using Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards.
* Choice of three colours - “Black on Silver”, “Black on Red” and “Shining Silver” colour combinations.
Other impressive features for a phone of this size include video calling, Bluetooth, multimedia player, stereo speakers, FM radio.
The T700 is neither a Walkman or CyberShot branded handset, but the Sony Ericsson music player is of fantastic quality and features the usual MegaBass, TrackID, playlists and the ability to display album art.
There are compromises to the phone due to the compact size. Compared to the rivals of the T700, the 2 inch screen is quite small and the inbuilt camera does not come with autofocus function. A standard audio jack socket is also missing. On a more positive note, there is also email and web access via Access NetFront browser and the phone has said to have a decent amount of talk time at 9.5 hours on GSM and 4.5 hours on 3G.
Sony Ericsson says:
“the slim elegance of the T700 gives users a premium experience at a mid-range price point - perfect for the design conscious”
This marks the T700 as more of a fashion phone, but with the given specifications, the handset would be suitable for business use too.
Sony Ericsson say that the T700 should be available sometime during Q4 2008.
