According to the guys at Dialaphone.co.uk, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is due for UK release in October next month. This much hyped and highly anticipated phone was originally announced back in Feburary, and is set to be launched exclusively first in the UK, Germany and Sweden.
So what’s all the hype about? Well, from looking at the impressive features of this device, it is obvious that the X1 Xperia has been released to compete with other smartphone heavyweights from the the likes of Blackberry, HTC and of course Apple.
The X1 Xperia boasts:
- 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording
- 3 Inch TFT Touchscreen (2048x 1536)
- Arch Slider QWERTY keyboard
- 400MB Internal Memory with microSD card support.
- Windows Mobile Professional 6.1
- Handwriting recognition
- A-GPS
- Office Mobile and Outlook mobile
- WAP 2.0, SMS/EMS/MMS
The X1 is the first model in the Xperia range and also the first Sony Ericsson to run on the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. This enables access to a whole host of business related applications such as Microsoft Pocket Office, which allows you to view important documents in Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and also in PDF format.

Internet browsing is accessible with Internet Explorer and email facilities are via Microsoft Outlook. Other business features include video confercing via a dedicated secondary camera and also A-GPS( advanced GPS) support which allows compatibility with other satellite navigation applications. The Xperia X1 also supports HSUPA ( a variant of of HSDPA) which is capable of upload speeds of upto 5.7Mbps.
Protecting all these features, the X1 comes encased in a silver stainless steel body, with an Arch-Slider QWERTY keyboard which certainly looks very stylish with a futuristic feel. Sliding keyboards are nothing new in smart phones, but the X1’s unique curved ergonomic design allows greater ease of use compared to a normal flat keyboard.
On first impressions, Sony Ericsson’s first attempt at a Window smartphone certainly looks good enough to be a world class leader. There are so many exciting features available on this phone and we will give you the full low down on the device once it has been released next month. In the meantime, you can get more information on the phone from Dialaphone’s Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 review.
