It seems that Chinese mobile phones are now being used as communications tools by terrorists throughout the world. Handsets made by the Chinese do not come provided with any offical International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number which can be used to idenfity individual phones. This makes it extemely difficult to track any suspected terrorist activity made via handsets, and terrorists are using this to their advantage.
The growing use of these phones in terrorist campaigns has prompted the Intelligence Bureau and Home Ministry in India to instruct network providers to reject connections to phones with no IMEI numbers. They are also currently seeking a permanent national ban of Chinese handsets altogether. Indian intelligence agencies turned their focus to Chinese mobile phones after one suspect of the Ahmedabad blasts had used 50 separate sim cards on three different Chinese handsets.
