sony-ericsson-kate01 Kate May Be Coming For A Visit - And Taking PicturesSony Ericsson Kate is the rumored codename of a new 5 Megapixel Cybershot phone said to be the successor of K750, the 2 MP candybar released in 2005. The new phone was first written about on the Web at the end of September, in a few rather blurry, useless shots that didn’t let us see very clear pics of it.

Thanks to a new set of photos from Cell Phone Sail, the rumored K750’s successor has appeared again, but this time the available pics are much clearer.

The display of Kate seems to have similar touch-sensitive camera keys, like the C902, another 5 MP Cybershot phone that SE released earlier this year. Kate’s display also seems to be larger, which is good news, since the one of C902 only has 2 inches, which is fairly tiny by today’s higher standards (and sort of necessary for a product that will be marketed partially as a nicer camera phone).

The 5 Megapixel camera of Sony Ericsson Kate comes with autofocus and a Xenon flash, so it’s worthy of having the Cybershot branding. This although it might not be as great as the 8 MP camera of C905 - currently the ultimate Cybershot phone (but it won’t have the type of price tag associated with higher end camera phones, more than likely).

Apart from the camera, little else is known about the new Kate. Still, HSDPA connectivity is said to be included, on top of the quad-band GSM/EDGE one. The phone apparently does not include GPS (disappointing) and it runs on the same Java platform the C905 does.

By the way it looks, the Kate might be launched for a decent price, maybe below US$200 range; no definite prices released yet. Rumors indicate the phone will be released by the end of this month, but we’ll see if that holds true.
