Nokia is set to launch its free music package this Thursday, which could possibly be a serious threat to Apple’s dominance in the digital music business. This, coupled with the fact that major record labels are behind a new music delivery platform entitled MySpace Music, is sure to put a huge dent in the sales of Apple’s iTunes store. Apple has already threatened to shut down iTunes if it has to absorb any more royalty fees related to selling the music as the company is adamantly against a rate hike.
Nokia is expected to unveil more details on its program entitled “Comes with Music” at an analyst event in London on Thursday. In addition to the announcement, Nokia is also expected to unveil its first touchscreen phone the 5800 ‘Tube’ which will be in direct competition with Apple’s iPhone. If Nokia’s phone is offered at a cheaper price than that of the iPhone, Apple could be in serious trouble on both fronts.
