Network operators Orange, are set to take part in an new programme to access the company’s environmental impact. Announcing a new partnership with the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), Orange will take a detailed audit to see how it’s mobile and landline services are affecting the environment in France.

Starting at the end of October, Orange will also begin displaying a five-point rating system on its products and services. The catergories will include: levels of Co2 emissions, recyclable and renewable materials used, energy efficiency, use of hazardous materials and waste reduction within the product.

The company said:

“With this environmental rating system, Orange is stating its desire for transparency in the marketing of its products. This initiative is an important part of a partnership signed between Orange and WWF France in March 2008 that aims to speed up the implementation of the Group’s environmental strategy, which was initiated in 1996.”

Orange also announced in earlier in June, their ambitious plans to reduce their levels of carbon emissions by 60% by the year 2016.
