This report is one that you can print and put up on the fridge for all parents, babysitters, older relatives and other so-called ‘persons in charge’ to read and wince at! It’s all about how you should be spending more time in front of the TV with a controller in hand or on your mobile phone playing games.
A recent study in America by Pew Internet & American Life Project has reported that 97% of teenagers between the ages 12 and 17 play computer, web or mobile games and nearly 31% of teen gamers play them every day. The fantastic twist to this is that the study also found that this is actually extraordinarily beneficial to teenagers! Regularly playing games helps in a child’s development as they become more interested in current affairs, increases their socialisation skills and they become a lot more civic minded and charitable.
So often the media is full of negative reports about gaming, it is actually refreshing to see research being done to show its benefits as well. As per usual it’s all about balance. Simulator games simulate reality therefore there are a bit of an easy sell for the benefits to children, button mashing games are purported to be great for boosting reflexes but with Mobile games the connected world and personalisation is integrated into the experience and therefore consider the social angle as well. So finally we can put a smile to the frown on mobile gaming.
